Kings County Spring Bike Ride, March 31, 2001

This was the first year for the Hanford Breakfast Lions Club's "Hanford Bike Ride". The Lions Club did a great job with the food and signs and with coordinating the routes along the way.

Bob getting ready for the Hanford Bike Ride Ride Signup

Bob and I arrived early while the Hanford Breakfast Lions Club Staff got set up.

Signup table Some pre-ride goodies

Some pre-ride goodies were set out for us "morning impaired" riders.

At the starting gate! At the starting gate

We are ready for the start of the 35 mile course. Which turned out to be a 38 mile course by our cycle computer numbers.

The first rest stop The first rest stop

The first rest stop was at a local fire station. The friendly folks running the rest stop did a great job on the food.

I forgot to shoot the second rest stop. Oh well.

Bikes loaded and we're ready for lunch! Some pre lunch snacks

We loaded up the bikes and wandered over to the post ride snack area.

Food is allmost ready Let the feeding begin

Food is served! Tri-Tip, salad, rolls, beans and drinks!

Bottom Line:

This was a fun ride with nice people and good food. There were no hills. So it is flat and fast! This is a good beginners ride. I think there was also a 15 mile ride. For the rest of us it was a chance to find out how fast we could go for 38 miles. If you're a central valley cyclist, this is a great ride to meet other cyclists from the area. If you're from out of the area, this is a wonderful way to see some beautiful countryside and a LOT of farmland. We enjoyed the ride and will be back next year!
